Project Facts
A Complete Entrance for a Jasper Mountain Property
North Georgia Fence Company completed this automatic gate installation in Jasper, GA with more than the gate’s appearance in mind. The homeowner needed an entrance that combined automatic operation, visitor communication, vehicle exit, and a way for emergency responders to request gate access.
The finished project pairs an ALEKO MILAN steel dual swing gate with LiftMaster LA400 operators and a CAPXS Smart Video Intercom S. An SOS 14 siren-operated access device and Cartell wireless free-exit system serve separate entry and exit functions.
Large brick columns, constructed by the homeowner’s mason, frame the entrance. Planning for internet equipment within a column helped bring the access-control system together.
Customer Problem: Planning the Gate and Its Access Controls Together
The customer contacted NGFC to arrange a meeting at the proposed gate location. During the consultation, we discussed the desired entrance and the access equipment that would suit the property.
A video intercom needed a workable connection at the gate. The project also required a plan for everyday vehicle exit and siren-operated emergency entry.
Rather than selecting an intercom first and addressing connectivity afterward, we assessed the location before settling on the equipment.
Site Inspection: Automatic Gate Installation in Jasper, GA
Our site survey found insufficient cellular service at the proposed entrance to support a cellular-connected intercom.
We selected the LiftMaster CAPXS and planned for fiber internet service to be brought to the gate location. That decision provided an internet connection at the entrance without relying on cellular reception there.
The owner arranged for the home builder’s mason to construct the brick columns. A metal box large enough to accommodate the modem and router was incorporated into the side of one column. The gate and network equipment locations were considered as parts of the same entrance.
Solution: LiftMaster Automation with Separate Access Functions
Steel Gate and Dual Swing Operators
NGFC ordered the ALEKO MILAN steel dual swing gate and posts, accepted delivery, and transported the gate to the jobsite. The selected gate is the 14-by-6-foot model, DG14MILD-AP.
A LiftMaster LA400PKGUL dual swing gate opener kit provides the automation for the two gate leaves.
CAPXS Video Entry and Internet Connectivity
The pedestal-mounted LiftMaster CAPXS Smart Video Intercom S provides the visitor communication point.
The entrance uses fiber-backed internet rather than relying on a cellular-connected intercom at a weak-signal location. The fiber service supplies the site’s internet connection; the CAPXS is connected through the local network equipment. This does not mean that a fiber cable plugs directly into the intercom. The CAPXS can connect wirelessly to a router via WiFi or be wired directly via an Ethernet cable. For this project, the router was connected to the fiber optic modem located in the equipment enclosure located inside the brick column. We hardwired the CAPXS to the router using an underground Ethernet cable.
See how we used Starlink to provide internet connectivity at another location in Jasper, GA, where neither fiber-optic nor cellular service was available.
SOS 14 Siren-Operated Emergency Access
The project includes an SOS 14 Siren-Operated Emergency Gate Access Device.
The manufacturer describes this device as recognizing a “Yelp” siren for approximately three seconds, then sending a trigger to open the gate. This offers an emergency access method that does not require a responder to use a visitor code, key, or remote at the entrance.
Siren recognition is specific to the device’s supported sound pattern. It should not be described as opening for every siren or any loud noise. The trigger requests gate opening; actual gate movement still depends on an operational gate system.
Cartell Wireless Vehicle Exit
The Cartell wireless free-exit system detects an approaching vehicle from inside the property and provides the gate’s exit request.
This serves a different purpose from the CAPXS visitor intercom and SOS emergency entry device. Vehicle exit detection is also distinct from the safety devices used to protect against moving-gate hazards.
DITEK Power Surge Protection
The project includes a DITEK DTK-120HW surge protective device for the 120VAC supply.
Surge suppression adds protection against electrical transients. It should not be represented as guaranteeing protection against every lightning event or protecting every component and circuit at the entrance.
Installation Process: From Delivery to the Finished Entrance
The project brought together the gate installation and the infrastructure needed for its controls:
- Consultation and site survey: NGFC discussed the homeowner’s needs and assessed access-control connectivity at the proposed gate location.
- Gate ordering and delivery: We ordered the ALEKO MILAN gate and posts, received the shipment, and transported it to the property.
- Column and connectivity preparation: The homeowner’s mason constructed the brick columns, including an enclosure for network equipment. Fiber internet service was brought to the entrance as part of the project.
- Gate and automation installation: NGFC installed the steel dual swing gate and LiftMaster LA400 equipment.
- Visitor, exit, and emergency access: The project incorporated the CAPXS intercom, Cartell wireless free exit, and SOS 14 siren-operated access device.
- Surge protection and completion: DITEK 120VAC surge protection formed part of the finished system.
The column photo shows how the network equipment enclosure and LiftMaster control box were accommodated alongside the gate and actuators.
How Do First Responders Get Through an Automatic Gate?
Emergency access should be considered when planning an automated entrance.
For this Jasper project, the selected approach was an SOS 14 siren-operated sensor. It recognizes the supported Yelp siren pattern and sends an opening signal to the gate control system.
This is one access method, rather than a statement that every responding vehicle will use the same procedure or that one device meets every local requirement. Property owners should coordinate the emergency access arrangement with the responding agency and any applicable approval authority.
The device also does not make an inoperable gate move. Power-loss access, manual release arrangements, equipment condition, and ongoing service remain part of planning a usable entrance.
Final Result: A Finished Entrance with Integrated Access Control
The completed entrance features a 14-foot ALEKO MILAN dual swing gate between substantial brick columns. LiftMaster LA400 automation, the pedestal-mounted CAPXS video intercom, wireless vehicle exit detection, siren-operated emergency access, and surge protection form the project’s equipment package.
The homeowner’s review describes both the appearance of the gate and the communication throughout the work. The project illustrates how early decisions about connectivity and equipment placement can support a finished entrance that looks carefully planned.

Follow-Up Service: Gate Repair and Earlier Vehicle Detection
Several months after installation, a delivery truck damaged the gate. The homeowner contacted NGFC again, and we returned to repair it.
During that visit, the customer asked whether the gate could open sooner when a departing vehicle triggered the Cartell exit sensor. We moved the wireless sensor farther back along the driveway, away from the gate, so it would detect an exiting vehicle earlier.
The change gave the gate more time to complete its opening movement before the vehicle arrived. After the adjustment, the gate was fully open by the time a vehicle reached it, and the homeowner was very pleased with the improvement.
This improved the timing of the opening request rather than increasing the operator’s travel speed. The appropriate sensor location depends on the driveway, vehicle approach, wireless signal conditions, and gate travel time.
Our Commitment Doesn't End at Installation
A gate entrance brings together mechanical equipment, power, access controls, and sometimes an internet connection. When a problem develops, those components need to be evaluated as a system.
NGFC provides automatic gate troubleshooting and repair as well as new installations. Homeowners can contact us about gate movement, operators, access controls, and related equipment, and ask about automatic gate maintenance plans.
Why This Project Matters
Weak cellular service at an entrance does not automatically rule out a connected video intercom when a suitable internet connection can be provided. This Jasper installation also shows why visitor entry, automatic vehicle exit, and emergency access should be discussed separately during planning. Considering those needs before construction helped coordinate the gate, columns, network enclosure, and controls.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions:
How can emergency responders open an automatic driveway gate?
A gate can be equipped with an emergency access method selected for the site. This Jasper project includes an SOS 14 siren-operated sensor, which recognizes a supported Yelp siren and sends an opening signal to the gate system. Coordinate the access arrangement with the responding agency and applicable approval authority.
Will an SOS 14 open the gate for any siren?
No. The manufacturer describes recognition of a Yelp siren for approximately three seconds. The device sends an opening trigger after recognizing the supported sound pattern; it is not a general-purpose loud-noise detector.
Can a video intercom work where cellular service is weak?
Yes, an internet-connected intercom may be an option if a suitable connection can be supplied at the entrance. This project used a LiftMaster CAPXS with fiber-backed internet. A site survey helps determine the appropriate connection and equipment.
Is automatic vehicle exit the same as emergency gate entry?
No. The Cartell free-exit system detects approaching vehicles from inside the property. The SOS 14 serves a separate emergency-entry function, while the CAPXS provides visitor communication and access control.
