Two Solar Gate Entrances for One Talking Rock Property
North Georgia Fence Company completed this solar driveway gate installation in Talking Rock, GA in two stages, beginning with the replacement of a deteriorating wooden driveway gate. A year later, the same homeowner asked us to install a matching automatic gate at a new entrance on the other side of the property.
Both entrances presented the conditions we frequently encounter at North Georgia mountain properties: steep gravel driveways, wooded surroundings, and limited access to electrical power. Each system required a gate layout and solar panel location suited to its particular entrance.
The result was two separate solar-powered dual swing gate systems with LiftMaster automation and outward-opening gates. NGFC also returned later to repair damaged exit-sensor wiring at the first entrance.
Customer Problem: A Heavy Wooden Gate and a Difficult Entrance
The original driveway entrance had a large dual swing wooden privacy gate that was rotting and becoming difficult to open and close manually. The homeowner wanted a replacement that would improve the entrance and make everyday access easier.
NGFC directed her to ALEKO’s driveway gate selection so she could choose a style she liked. She selected the ALEKO VENICE steel dual swing gate, marketed as the 16-by-6-foot model.
The entrance was far from a convenient electrical source and surrounded by trees. The steep driveway also affected which direction the new gate could swing.
Site Inspection: Solar Driveway Gate Installation in Talking Rock, GA
At the first entrance, we identified a sunny spot in a small clearing approximately 100 feet from the gate location. This provided a place for the solar panel away from the shaded entrance.
The driveway slope required the gates to open outward. We planned the LiftMaster installation with push-to-open brackets to accommodate that movement.
A year later, the new road on the other side of the property presented similar challenges. The second entrance also needed outward-opening gates, while adequate sunlight for its panel was approximately 200 feet away.
The second driveway was too steep for a comfortable stop at a gate-side keypad. We found a level area approximately 75 feet down the driveway and selected that location for the access pedestal and keypad.
Solution: Steel Gates, LiftMaster Automation, and Remote Solar Panels
Installation Process: Two Entrances, One Property
First Entrance: Replacing the Deteriorated Wooden Gate
NGFC received delivery of the new steel gate and transported the packaged equipment to the rural, wooded jobsite.
On the first installation day, we:
- Disassembled and removed the heavy, deteriorated wooden gate.
- Installed the new gate posts in concrete.
- Trenched across the gravel driveway and installed conduit for the secondary operator wiring.
We returned the following day to hang the dual steel gate and install the LiftMaster automation equipment. The outward-opening arrangement used the required push-to-open brackets.
We installed the upgraded 60W solar panel in the clearing approximately 100 feet away and ran wiring between the panel and control box. The Cartell CP-4 free-exit sensor and LiftMaster KPW5 wireless keypad completed the first entrance’s access arrangement.
Second Entrance: A Matching System for a New Road
A year after the first installation, the homeowner had a new road cut to the other side of the property and asked NGFC to install another matching system.
The second gate also used push-to-open brackets so the dual gate leaves could open outward on the steep driveway. We again upgraded the solar panel to 60W and positioned it approximately 200 feet away where adequate sunlight was available.
For entry, we installed the keypad pedestal in a level area approximately 75 feet down the driveway. That placement allowed the driver to stop and enter a code before approaching the gate, rather than trying to stop on the steep section beside it.
Watch the Second Gate Open and Close
A short demonstration shows the second Talking Rock gate opening and closing, giving homeowners a view of the finished system in operation.
Final Result: Two Automated Entrances Adapted to Mountain Terrain
The homeowner replaced a difficult manual wooden gate with a solar-powered steel gate system, then returned to NGFC for a matching automated entrance a year later.
At both locations, the gate swing direction and solar panel placement were adapted to the driveway and surrounding trees. The second entrance’s keypad was positioned on level ground to make entering a code more practical.
The first system had operated reliably for more than a year before a later problem with the exit-sensor wiring prompted a service visit. The homeowner’s request for a second installation is a documented part of the project’s history.
Ongoing Service: Repairing the First Entrance’s Exit Sensor
Some months after the second installation, the homeowner contacted NGFC because the first gate was no longer opening automatically when approached from inside the property to exit.
During the service visit, we diagnosed the problem and found that the wire to the Cartell exit sensor had been severed. The cause of the damage was not established.
We spliced the wire back together using waterproof connectors and restored the exit function without replacing the sensor or operator components. The issue was damaged wiring, rather than a failure of the solar charging arrangement.
Our Commitment Doesn’t End at Installation
North Georgia Fence Company installed both gate entrances and continued providing service when the homeowner later needed help.
The exit-sensor repair illustrates the value of diagnosing the specific problem before recommending equipment replacement. In this case, repairing the damaged wire restored the function without the cost of a replacement sensor.

Why This Project Matters
A wooded mountain entrance may still be a candidate for solar gate automation when a suitable panel location can be found and the system is designed for the site. This project also shows why driveway slope, gate swing direction, and a practical place to stop at the keypad deserve attention during planning. Continued service helped keep the original entrance working after its exit-sensor wire was damaged.
