Project Facts

Service: Commercial Gate Automation Installation

  Location: Jasper, GA

Gate Type: Cantilever Sliding Gate

Equipment: LiftMaster CSL24UL

Access Control: RFID + Keypad + Exit Sensor

Project Overview

North Georgia Fence Company installed a heavy-duty commercial automatic sliding gate and access control system for the City of Jasper Maintenance Department in Jasper, Georgia.

The city needed a dependable system that would control access to the maintenance facility while allowing authorized city vehicles to enter efficiently. The completed installation incorporated a LiftMaster CSL24UL 24VDC High-Traffic Commercial Slide Gate Operator, RFID vehicle access, keypad entry, automatic vehicle exit detection, obstruction safety devices, and a reinforced concrete operator foundation.

This project required considerably more than installing a gate operator. Asphalt had to be cut, concrete foundations constructed, underground electrical service installed, access-control equipment protected from vehicle traffic, and multiple safety and access-control devices integrated into one complete system.

Customer Requirements

The City of Jasper needed a secure automatic entrance that could accommodate daily use by municipal vehicles while providing multiple methods of controlled access.

The system needed to provide:

  • RFID access for authorized city vehicles
  • Individual RFID tags for company trucks
  • Four-digit keypad access
  • Automatic vehicle detection for exiting the facility
  • Entrapment-protection devices for gate movement
  • Durable commercial equipment suitable for frequent operation
  • Physical protection for the access-control pedestal

The goal was not simply to automate the gate. The individual components needed to function together as a complete commercial access-control system.

Preparing the Operator Foundation

A commercial gate operator needs a stable mounting foundation.

Because the installation was located in an existing paved area, we cut through the asphalt and excavated the site for a substantial concrete equipment pad. The concrete foundation was securely anchored and sized to provide a solid mounting surface for the gate operator and control system.

Once the concrete cured, the commercial LiftMaster CSL24UL commercial slide gate operator could be securely mounted and aligned with the sliding gate.

This foundation work is particularly important with heavy commercial gates because movement or settling at the operator can affect alignment and long-term reliability.

Supplying Power to the Gate System

Getting electrical power to the operator required additional site work.

A trench was excavated across the paved parking area to provide a route for electrical service to the gate operator. Once the electrical infrastructure was installed, the affected area could be restored.

Planning this portion of a commercial installation correctly is important because the gate operator, access-control equipment, sensors, and safety devices all depend upon reliable electrical infrastructure.

RFID Access for City Vehicles

One of the city's primary requirements was convenient access for authorized municipal vehicles.

An RFID reader was incorporated into the system, with RFID tags assigned to company trucks. An authorized vehicle approaching the entrance can therefore be recognized by the access-control system without requiring the driver to stop and manually enter a code.

This provides a convenient solution for vehicles that routinely enter and leave the maintenance facility.

Keypad Access

A keypad was also installed to provide access using a four-digit code.

The keypad required its own steel pedestal. Because the entrance was already paved, we cut through the asphalt, excavated the foundation area, and secured the pedestal in concrete.

This created a permanent and stable mounting point for the access-control equipment.

Protecting the Access-Control Equipment

Commercial entrances see trucks, equipment, trailers, and other vehicles every day, so protecting the keypad pedestal was an important part of the installation.

Another opening was cut through the asphalt and excavated for a 4-inch Schedule 40 steel protection post. The post was anchored securely in concrete and fitted with a highly visible yellow protective sleeve.

The resulting bollard helps protect the keypad and pedestal from accidental vehicle impact.

Automatic Exit Detection

The system was also equipped with an automatic exit sensor.

When a vehicle approaches the gate from inside the secured property, the exit detection system signals the operator to open the gate automatically. Employees leaving the facility therefore don't need to use a keypad or RFID credential simply to exit.

This provides a smoother flow of authorized vehicle traffic while maintaining controlled access from outside the property.

Gate Safety & Obstruction Protection

Safety was an integral part of the installation.

The system incorporated obstruction protection for both directions of gate travel:

Closing protection helps prevent the gate from continuing to close when a vehicle, pedestrian, or other obstruction is detected in the closing path.

Opening protection helps prevent gate movement when an obstruction is detected in the gate's opening path.

For a large commercial sliding gate operating around employees, municipal vehicles, and equipment, properly installed safety devices are an essential part of the overall system.

Final Result

The completed system gave the City of Jasper Maintenance Department a commercial entrance designed around the way the facility actually operates.

Authorized city vehicles have convenient RFID access, other approved users can enter through the keypad, vehicles can exit automatically, and the gate's travel areas are protected by dedicated safety devices.

From asphalt cutting and concrete foundations to electrical infrastructure, access control, vehicle detection, and final system configuration, North Georgia Fence Company handled the gate automation as a complete installation rather than simply mounting an operator to an existing gate.

👍 We Stand Behind Every Installation

An automatic gate is a working mechanical, electrical, and access-control system that will eventually need adjustments, maintenance, troubleshooting, or upgrades. Our goal is to build relationships with customers who know they can call us again when their system needs attention.

That commitment became especially relevant on this project. Several months after completing the installation, the City of Jasper Maintenance Department contacted us when the gate stopped operating following a lightning event. We returned, diagnosed the problem, isolated a failed access-control component, and restored the gate to service without unnecessarily replacing the operator.

That installation-to-repair connection is excellent proof of what "standing behind the installation" actually means.

Why This Project Matters

A commercial automatic gate is more than a motor attached to a fence. A dependable system requires the gate, foundation, electrical supply, access control, vehicle detection, safety devices, and physical protection to be designed to work together.

This City of Jasper project demonstrates North Georgia Fence Company's ability to handle the entire process—from site preparation and concrete work through access-control integration, safety systems, commissioning, and ongoing service.
