Blairsville Farm Gate Automation: LiftMaster LA400 Installation & Access Control Upgrades
North Georgia Fence Company completed an automatic gate opener installation in Blairsville, GA, helping the owners of a working farm improve access through two existing dual-swing driveway gates.
The project involved installing a new LiftMaster LA400 dual gate opener at the farm's main entrance, upgrading a malfunctioning vehicle exit sensor at a second gate serving the main barn, and adding convenient push-button opening controls to both entrances.
Rather than replacing gates that were already in place, we focused on improving their automation, reliability, and everyday convenience.
Project Facts
 Customer Problem
The owners of this Blairsville working farm had two existing dual-swing gates serving different areas of their property.
The main driveway entrance already had a physical gate, but the owners wanted the convenience of an automatic opener rather than relying on manual operation.
The second gate, located at the entrance to the main barn, was already equipped with a LiftMaster LA400 dual gate opener. However, its automatic vehicle exit sensor was no longer functioning.
That created an inconvenience for vehicles approaching the gate from inside the property.
The owners also wanted a simple way to open either gate while standing near the operator, without having to locate a remote control or use another access device.
Our assignment was to improve both entrances while making practical use of the existing gates and equipment.
Site Inspection
Evaluating the Main Farm Entrance
At the main driveway entrance, we examined the existing dual-swing gate and planned the installation of a LiftMaster LA400 automatic gate opener system.
The goal was to automate the entrance without unnecessarily replacing the existing gate.
Evaluating the Barn Gate
At the second entrance, the LiftMaster LA400 gate opener was already installed, so the primary issue was the malfunctioning exit sensor.
We also considered where a replacement sensor could be positioned to detect an approaching vehicle farther from the gate, allowing the opening cycle to begin before the vehicle reached the entrance.
The nearby four-board farm fence offered a practical mounting location for the wireless sensor, with the additional benefit of making future battery replacement more accessible.
Finally, we considered how to provide convenient local gate operation at both entrances.
Solution
LiftMaster LA400 Dual Gate Opener Installation in Blairsville, GA
For the main entrance, North Georgia Fence Company installed a LiftMaster LA400 dual-swing automatic gate openeron the existing driveway gate.
This upgrade gave the property owners powered operation of the main entrance while retaining the gate already serving the farm.
Cartell Wireless Exit Sensor Upgrade
For the barn entrance, we replaced the malfunctioning vehicle exit sensor with a Cartell wireless exit sensor system.
The wireless arrangement allowed us to position the sensor farther from the gate without running a continuous control cable back to the operator.
With the sensor located along the vehicle approach, the system could initiate the gate-opening cycle earlier, giving the gate time to open as an approaching vehicle traveled toward the entrance.
We mounted the sensor on the existing four-board fence, where its battery compartment could be reached conveniently during future maintenance.
Convenient Push-Button Gate Controls
The owners also requested a way to open both gates locally without a remote control.
We recommended installing a momentary push button on the underside of each LiftMaster control enclosure.
These discreet controls provide a convenient means of initiating gate operation while standing at the equipment.
The buttons were installed on both gates, providing the owners with the additional local operating option they requested.
Installation Process
1. Automating the Main Entrance
We installed the LiftMaster LA400 dual gate opener system on the farm's existing main entrance gate.
The completed installation provided automatic operation without requiring the owners to purchase an entirely new driveway gate.
2. Upgrading the Barn Gate Exit Sensor
At the second gate, we addressed the nonfunctioning exit sensor by installing a Cartell wireless vehicle detection system.
The sensor was mounted on the four-board fence at a location selected to provide advance detection of vehicles approaching the gate.
We installed the corresponding wireless receiver inside the existing LiftMaster LA400 control enclosure and integrated the sensor system with the gate operator.
3. Adding Local Push-Button Controls
We installed momentary push buttons on the underside of the LiftMaster control enclosures at both entrances.
The discreet placement keeps the controls accessible to someone standing at the operator without making them a prominent feature of the gate installation.
4. Maintenance and Operational Checks
We performed general maintenance on the existing barn gate system as part of the project.
After completing the upgrades, we checked the operation of the new main entrance automation, the barn gate's wireless exit sensor, and the local push-button controls.
Final Result
The Blairsville farm now benefits from two improved automatic driveway gate systems.
At the main entrance, the existing dual-swing gate has been upgraded with a LiftMaster LA400 dual automatic gate opener.
At the barn entrance, the existing LA400 system has a new Cartell wireless exit sensor positioned to initiate gate opening before approaching vehicles reach the gate.
Both entrances also have discreet push-button controls for convenient local operation.
Together, these improvements make everyday access around the farm easier while retaining the property's existing gates.
Our Commitment Doesn't End at Installation
At North Georgia Fence Company, we understand that an automatic driveway gate is equipment that property owners depend on long after the original installation.
Gate operators, vehicle detection sensors, batteries, controls, and mechanical components all benefit from periodic inspection and maintenance.
This Blairsville project illustrates our approach: we install new automatic gate systems, but we also troubleshoot existing equipment, replace failed components, and improve gate operation when an upgrade makes practical sense.
Whether a property needs a complete new installation or attention to an existing automatic gate, our goal is to recommend a solution appropriate for the equipment and the way the entrance is used.
Why This Project Matters
Not every automatic driveway gate project requires replacing the entire gate. This Blairsville farm demonstrates how a new operator, an upgraded vehicle exit sensor, and thoughtfully placed local controls can improve convenience and functionality while retaining existing gate structures.
