Project Facts
Automatic Driveway Gate Installation on a Steep Driveway in Blue Ridge, GA
North Georgia Fence Company installed a custom 16-foot double-arched steel driveway gate with a LiftMaster LA400 dual-gate opener at a residential property in Blue Ridge, Georgia.
The installation included matching side fence panels, keypad access, an automatic vehicle exit sensor, and approximately 125 feet of underground electrical wiring from the house to the gate entrance.
The project demonstrates how an automatic driveway gate can combine an attractive entrance with convenient vehicle access on a steep North Georgia mountain driveway.
Customer's Project
The homeowner wanted a new automatic driveway gate system for a steep driveway entrance.
This was not our first project for the customer. North Georgia Fence Company had previously installed approximately 450 linear feet of 4-foot black vinyl-coated chain-link fencing on the property.
The homeowner later called us back on two occasions to repair fence damage caused by fallen trees.
When the property needed an automatic driveway gate, the customer returned to North Georgia Fence Company for the installation.
Site Conditions and Installation Planning
The driveway's steep grade was an important consideration for the new entrance.
The project called for a 16-foot-wide dual-swing steel gate, matching side fence panels, a dual-gate operator system, and access-control equipment.
Electrical power also needed to reach the entrance from the house, requiring approximately 125 feet of trenching and underground wiring, including a route beneath a concrete walkway.
The installation plan included the gate structure, operator equipment, keypad access, automatic exit detection, and electrical protection components.
Outward-Swinging Gate Configuration for a Steep Driveway
The steep driveway required a different approach from a typical inward-swinging automatic gate installation.
We used push-to-open mounting brackets with the LiftMaster LA400 dual-gate operator, allowing both gate leaves to swing outward rather than inward toward the driveway.
This configuration accommodated the driveway's grade while providing automatic operation of the 16-foot double-arched steel entrance.
The project demonstrates why driveway slope and gate swing direction must be evaluated before selecting and mounting an automatic gate operator.
Automatic Driveway Gate Installation
16-Foot Double-Arched Steel Gate
We installed a 16-foot-wide double-arched steel driveway gate consisting of two swinging gate leaves.
The installation also included two matching 8-foot fence panels, gate posts, and end posts to complete the entrance.
The matching panels created a coordinated appearance across the driveway entrance.
LiftMaster LA400 Dual-Gate Opener
The gate was automated using a LiftMaster LA400 dual-gate opener kit.
This system operates both gate leaves and provides convenient powered entry and exit.
The installation included two key-fob-style remote controls.
EMX Keypad Access Control
We installed an EMX-KPX100 programmable keypad with capacity for up to 100 users.
The keypad provides PIN-code access for authorized vehicles and visitors.
Cartell Automatic Vehicle Exit Sensor
A Cartell vehicle exit sensor was installed to signal the gate to open when an approaching vehicle is detected from inside the property.
This allows departing drivers to exit without manually entering an access code.
Underground Electrical Power
We trenched and buried approximately 125 feet of electrical wiring from the house to the gate entrance, including a section beneath a concrete walkway.
The electrical installation included a 120VAC surge suppressor, grounding rod, electrical boxes, and related materials.
These components formed part of the power supply and electrical protection for the gate system.
Final Result
The completed installation gave the homeowner a coordinated steel driveway entrance with automatic dual-gate operation, keypad access, remote controls, and automatic vehicle exit detection.
The 16-foot double-arched gate and matching side panels provide an attractive entrance suited to the property's mountain setting.
The project also illustrates the importance of evaluating driveway grade, electrical access, gate construction, and operator selection together when planning an automatic gate installation.
👍 The beautiful final results for this automatic driveway gate installation in Blue Ridge, Georgia.

Why This Project Matters
An automatic driveway gate installation involves more than mounting an opener to a gate.
For mountain properties, the entrance design, driveway slope, gate structure, electrical power, access controls, and vehicle detection equipment must work together.
This Blue Ridge project demonstrates our experience combining those components into a complete residential driveway gate installation.
