Solar Automatic Dual Driveway Gate Installation in Jasper, GA
North Georgia Fence Company recently completed a solar automatic dual driveway gate installation in Jasper, GA, combining an ornamental steel entrance gate with LiftMaster LA400 gate automation, underground wiring, automatic vehicle exit detection, and a matching pedestrian entrance.
The homeowner selected an ALEKO Milan-style steel dual-swing driveway gate along with a matching pedestrian gate. The automatic driveway gate is powered by solar energy and operated by dual LiftMaster LA400 linear actuators.
This project also required substantial preparation below ground. We installed protected underground wiring between the two gate operators and trenched along the gravel driveway for the vehicle exit sensor. The pedestrian gate presented another challenge: the factory gate was too tall for the existing horizontal wood fence, so we modified and rewelded it to create a custom fit.
The result is a complete entrance that combines appearance, convenience, vehicle access and pedestrian access in one coordinated installation.
Customer Problem:
The homeowner wanted to upgrade the existing driveway entrance with an attractive steel gate while avoiding the need to bring conventional AC electrical service to the entrance.
A dual-swing configuration worked well for the driveway, but automating two gate leaves requires communication and power wiring between the primary control system and the second actuator.
The property also needed an automatic exit system so vehicles approaching from inside could trigger the gate without manually operating it.
Finally, the homeowner wanted the matching steel pedestrian gate incorporated into an existing 4-foot horizontal wood fence in place of the existing wood walk gate.
That created an additional fabrication challenge because the supplied pedestrian gate was 5 feet tall.
Site Inspection & Installation Planning
Before installation, we evaluated the driveway, existing wood fencing, gate locations, solar exposure and routes for the underground wiring.
The gravel driveway provided an opportunity to bury the necessary conduit without the more extensive cutting and restoration that would have been required on a paved entrance.
We planned separate underground routes for:
- wiring to the second gate actuator;
- wiring serving the automatic exit sensor;
- protected conduit beneath the driveway; and
- wiring from the exit sensor location back to the gate control system.
Careful planning at this stage helps protect gate wiring from weather, traffic and future damage.
Installation Challenge & Solution
Underground Wiring for the Dual Gate
A dual automatic swing gate requires the two sides of the entrance to work together as one system.
Using our Kwik-Trench machine, we trenched across the gravel driveway and installed conduit to protect the underground wiring serving the second LiftMaster actuator.
We also trenched along the driveway and toward its center for the automatic exit sensor wiring.
Installing this wiring inside conduit provides additional physical protection and also creates a more serviceable installation should wiring ever require attention in the future.
Solar LiftMaster LA400 Gate Automation
The dual-swing driveway gate was automated using LiftMaster LA400 linear actuators.
LiftMaster specifies the LA400UL as a 24VDC residential linear actuator for swing gates and rates it for gate leaves up to 16 feet or 850 pounds. The system is also designed for solar operation and battery backup.
For this installation, the solar panel was mounted above the control enclosure along the existing wood fence where it could supply the gate automation system without requiring conventional utility power at the entrance.
The completed system gives the homeowner the convenience of an automatic gate while making solar power practical for a rural North Georgia property.
Automatic Vehicle Exit Sensor
An automatic exit sensor was installed beneath the driveway approach on the property side of the gate.
When an exiting vehicle approaches the entrance, the sensor signals the gate system to open automatically. The driver can leave the property without using a remote or manually activating the gate.
Its placement was planned during trenching so the sensor wiring could be routed back to the control system inside protected underground conduit.
Custom Pedestrian Gate Modification
One of my favorite details of this project is something that might not be obvious from the finished photographs.
The homeowner wanted the matching steel pedestrian gate installed within an existing horizontal 4-board wood fence.
There was one problem:
The supplied pedestrian gate was 5 feet tall. The existing fence was approximately 4 feet tall.
Simply installing the gate at its original height would have looked out of place next to the wood fence.
Instead, we modified it.
The steel pedestrian gate was carefully cut down from its original 5-foot height and welded back together as a 4-foot gate so its finished height would coordinate with the existing horizontal wood fence.
This allowed the homeowner to keep the matching Milan-style pedestrian entrance without compromising the appearance of the existing fence.
Final Result
The completed entrance combines an ornamental steel dual-swing driveway gate, solar-powered LiftMaster automation, automatic vehicle exit detection, protected underground wiring, and a custom-fitted pedestrian entrance.
From the outside, visitors see a clean, attractive steel entrance.
Behind the scenes, the project includes the infrastructure that makes an automatic gate dependable: properly routed underground conduit, coordinated dual actuators, solar charging, vehicle detection and careful equipment installation.
The modified pedestrian gate completes the project by providing convenient walk-through access while looking as though it was designed for the existing fence from the beginning.

Our Commitment Doesn't End at Installation
An automatic driveway gate is more than the gate itself. It is a working system made up of operators, batteries, solar charging equipment, wiring, sensors, hinges and safety components that all need to continue functioning together.
North Georgia Fence Company doesn't consider that relationship finished when the installation is complete. We're available for future inspections, adjustments, troubleshooting, repairs and equipment upgrades as the system ages.
