WELDED WIRE FENCE

6 ft. tall 12 1/2 gauge galvanized welded wire fence fabric is the least expensive of the wire deer fence options. Opening between wire is 2 inch x 4 inch.

On metal T Post as shown here, this fence cost around $10 - $12 per foot installed.

Red Brand WILDLIFE FENCE / DEER FENCE

To maintain the 6ft. height at the driveway, we welded a custom gate and applied the same wire to the gate. A more decorative driveway gate could have been used. A custom walk gate out back was also installed. (see above).

Installed on all wood post, this 6 ft. tall fence cost in the $15 per foot price range.

Red Brand also makes a 8 ft. tall wire deer fence fabric as pictured up top.

The drive gate has a BFT Ecosol solar powered gate opener installed.

I have also built these large fences around home orchards to keep out deer and bear.

Installed in a nice open clear area like this; cost $16 per linear foot installed.

POLY NETTING DEER FENCING

DEER FENCING

Poly Deer Netting is a product that is made in heights of 7 or 8 feet. It is made out of black plastic mesh that has little effect on visibility but is effective in controlling deer pathways.

It is often attached to trees, but can also be used with any type of fence post. This fencing will not harm deer, although it is not always successful a stopping a fast running heard.

DIY kits are available on the world wide web, but honestly, they aren't much good. The netting is usually good, but the support frames are not.

ELECTRIC DEER FENCING

Another Deer Fencing option is to use electric livestock fence. This actually works. I have employed this concept around my fruit orchard while the trees are bearing, then remove it to mow - after carefully rolling it up and packaging it away for next year. I use the Electro Braid brand of copper imbedded rope, and it works great. The idea is that the deer can't jump far in distance only in height, if they try to get over this, they end up getting caught in between the two rows of active electric fence and quickly back away.
